Lent as the Pocket Fuzz of Christianity

Here's the thing about lent, it's something we do as a showy act of our supposed Christian faith. The concept itself is really good: giving something up to God so to show Him that you are committed and faithful to Him alone. What it has turned into is a showy affair of: guess what I'm giving up for lent? My point is proven by a Facebook event someone had created. The event: I'm Giving Up Facebook for Lent. Yes, it's true, this girl had decided to give up Facebook for God and announce to her entire Facebook network. I was shocked, in my opinion, these acts shouldn't be put out there to glorify yourself, rather, it should be done in private to glorify God, the purpose of lent in the first place.

  1. I never thought I'd say this Lucy, but I gotta agree with you on this one. Lent shouldn't be about bragging rights, or who's giving up the most. Its a matter of the heart. Nothing more, nothing less.
