Quality Education
As this semester winds to a close, we have been doing professor evaluations in every class. I have been noticing differences in my opinions of my instructors and this has caused me to reflect on my courses here. Was my private, Christian University education worth it? The answer may scare you, but I have come to the conclusion that because this is a Christian establishment, the standards here seem to be one of grace instead of one of good quality. Why don't we have the strictest standards on our teachers and our education so that we can be respected members of the working community? I am afraid that my education is outdated and shallow and not going to hold water against someone else from a secular college. I appreciate the Christian ethics I am learning here, but what I don't know is scaring me. What do you all think?

Natalie,
ReplyDeleteYou're probably getting a bit tired of this, but I think I'll have to disagree with you, once again. : ) I think there is great value in your christian education. if you had gone to a secular school you would have been indoctrinated with non christian ideas and may have strayed away from your faith because of that. Yes, we are a school that is covered in grace. But that is a good thing. Without god's grace, we are nothing. Where better to see that employed than in the classroom?
Natalie, I completely agree with you! I believe that most of our education at Simpson has been awful! Only a few classes have we actually learned. We should not have such grace for somethings that are important like this! You are right!
ReplyDeleteGoing to a Christian university allows for us to be taught in a friendly atmosphere engraved with truer teachings than that of a secular school. I agree with Kelly.
ReplyDeleteYou know I do have some professors at my school who are not really good teachers but a lot of the reason I am not learning falls onto me. I don't participate nor do I put effort into my assignments. I do what I need to keep my DIVA status.
ReplyDeleteDramatic Drea, please give me a break. Why are we paying so much money if we are supposed to be motivated and teach ourselves?! I'm paying so much because I want someone who has their Masters or Doctorate on a subject to actually teach me something that they spent years studying, which I have not. BIG DIFFERENCE.
